Courses Taught:
ART 107 – Design Fundamentals I: Introduce students to basic, two-dimensional pictorial elements and design principles. Students gain an understanding of design concepts and utilize them to complete assignments and projects. Readings and discussion assist in developing visual vocabulary and analytical skills.
ART 135 – Photography I: Development of a fine arts approach to black and white photography at an introductory level, exploring the aesthetic potential of photography as an expressive art form. Basic technical skills include using a manual 35mm camera, developing film and printing black and white photographs.
ART 333 – Photography for the Graphic Designer: This course is designed to expose the graphic design student to the technical and creative applications of commercial photography. Covered in this course: digital cameras, studio lighting, portraiture, architectural and product photography.
ART 337 – Intermediate Black and White Photography: Emphasis on photography as an expressive art form, as well as the development of creative and critical thinking. This course covers technical information on negative and printing controls, the zone system, medium format cameras, and large format cameras. This technical information is used in service to the photography as a means of visual communication.
ART 342 – Digital Photography: Investigates using the computer as a tool to expand a student’s visual expression of themes begun in traditional photography. Emphasis on conceptual development of ideas.
ART 490 – Studio Internship: Supervised on-site experience involving aspects of studio arts. Students gain valuable field experience by working on a variety of projects while working closely with their internship supervisor. Students work on and off location based on the needs and expectations of their supervisors.
ART 492 – Individual Studies: Individual creative work in any studio discipline. Before registering, the student must secure consent in writing from the instructor directing the study.
ART 710 – Graduate Studio: Individual problems in the studio, with choice of medium, working towards the Midway Project. Proposal outlining outcomes, reading list or artists researched, and meeting times must be submitted and approved by instructor and department chair before enrollment.
ART 720 – Graduate Projects: Individual problems in the studio, with choice of medium, working towards the public thesis project. Student proposal outlining outcomes, reading list, research, and meeting times must be approved by instructor and department chair before enrollment.

Emphasis on following methods: cyanotype, Van Dyke Brown, Diazo, Kwik print, photoetching, photo silk screen, gum print, Polaroid transfer, salt print, laser copy transfer, and mural printing.
ART 447 – Advanced Studio Practice, Photography: Students engage in personal exploration and experimentation in search of individual form and content within the broad realms of photography, choosing to primarily work in: Black and White, Digital, Alternative Processes or Intermedia.
